Chinese people on the internet respond to the East Nanjing Road stabbing incident that hurt 5 people. Shanghainese and other Chinese argue about who is to blame. Shanghai say it is always the "outsiders" who commit crime. Others say Shanghainese are xenophobic and discrimination against non-Shanghainese people as outsiders.

It's regionalism/city-pride really that dominates China; kinda like how Americans are very state-pride focused.

Works in rings of influence I think. You start with your district, then your city, then your country, and depending on where the "outsider" is from, you grab the appropriate ring and put yourself in it.

Certainly not limited to China - hell just look at the UK, or virtually any old European country - regionalism is rife.
